Full Story

Very pictureskew goal field in Wellington college grounds, but Crowthorne Station was a rather uninspiring addition to my spotters tally of railstations of the South East.

Alarmingly, this station was eminating considerable smoke from the locked ticket office. No one else round there seemed to care, so we dutifully phoned on the emergency phone, but the fire brigade had little to do by the time they got there, as Al (Wilson) had already poured his camelback into the apparent source, and extinguished it. Al had just put a cold beer in my hand, so that wasn't going on it.

The firemen eyed us suspiciously, I think suspecting we started it! Theres the thanks for public mindedness!

Oh; The conditions were quite good!

(Shame about my ill positioned goal which had me grovelling crosswind back onto track for 15k, all the way forced below 3500' by airspace, of which about 8k was below a 2500' airspace base. Our sheltered Northern brethren would wet themselves if they had to deal with our Southern airspace. ).
