Notes

This map gives an overview of the flight, using the turnpoints to plot the track.

Its small scale has some drawbacks - short flights and loop flights may appear as a single blob, and flights along the coast may appear out at sea.

Use the for a detailed map and flight track.

Notes

Climb and Speed averaged over 4 second intervals.

These values may be lower than those shown by a flight instrument, which has access to continuous raw data.

Red values indicate suspect data, because the tracklog contains invalid points.

Metric units are used for all chart data, except for Height which is shown in feet.

Full Story
I've always said that I'd never go to Edge Hill, its the height of a double decker bus and is covered in trees. Did two top to bottoms, got hot, sweaty, sweared a lot. Decided a more intelligent approach needed. Eventually the wind came on the hill briefly and managed to get into wooded bowl to the left where I was promptly attacked by a buzzard for 5 minutes. Slow climb out but stuck with it as not going back to ridge. Perfect looking sky starting to spread out, amazing ssw/nne street with 10 sailplanes bombing up it. Struggled to get high but content to drift slowly as sky ahead looked pants. Ran up the street to Daventry 4500ft then pushed east to patch of sun on the ground. Another sailplane helped find the climb to 5500ft, drift varying between SW and NW bizarre. Towns working OK with climb over Towcester, long glide to great CU past Nottingham, Sailplane decided to give me a beat up, screaming round me in a high banked turn before shooting infront to the cloud I was heading for and pulling up in the core, gaining at least 500ft before turning. Luckily left some for me and best climb of day, 7up to 6200ft. Stupid long glide over shadow, pushing on through weak lift when I should have waited. Luckily got up in blue. Over Gransden Lodge, south of Bourne and between Cambridge and Duxsford. Another complete battery failure (2 instruments this time) meant last 20km done with no vario, just Altitude and position on Aware Device... Arghh. Sky still good at 19. 30 so British Record possible but east coast sea breeze would have spoilt the day. Massive thanks to Phil Bibby for driving 100miles to pick me up. Thats another one I owe you!
