Amazing day at the mighty Liddington Castle. Arrived at 10am thinking I was early to find 20 cars already at the bottom of the hill. Looks like the cats out of the preverbial bag on this site! Great climb out with Mark Jones, Craig Atwell (Orange UP), Jon Collie, Charles Norwood and others to 4000ft just before 11. 00. Not concentrating taking photos and ended up bottom of the stack after first glide, very wind blown and scrabbly till Hungerford where connected with next good Cu having pimped off Chris Jones below me who unfortuantely landed at 20km. Mark and Craig stayed high and made an early break. Watched Jon Collie soaring Combe ahead and Charles scooting low along the ridges to the east. Glided in above him and managed to get a good climb into improving air to 4700ft. Pushed west to join up with Jon Collie for a Gradient photoshoot. Charles came in low to the east and found a climb which lead to an easy 35km, staying between 3500ft and 5300ft, with short cloud streets and easy transitions. Charles went for a decaying street and went down near Petersfield. I made a stupid decision with a long glide south to keep clear of the 4500 R8 which almost decked us. Found a corking climb from low down in the lee of the Hog's Back that took me to 4000ft in less than 6 mins, with Jon scrabbling below. Followed the line of the southdowns to my 100km goal which I found was positioned too far south to stay on the ridges. I glided in low in the Amberley Valley which was a mistake as I got a kicking in a lee sider but did get up again to drift a few more Km. Almost caught Mark Jones up again near Worthing but tried to get N of Shoreham ATZ and landed for 115. 5km straight distance. Amazing day with 3 first UK 100km flights from Jon Collie, Richard Bungay, Kirsty Cameron and Martin Nichols. Craig made it past the Dyke, landing at Newhaven for 146. 0km. Looks like Southern Monkeys are in the lead again!
