Wind was really well off to the east, but despite that, using the bits of thermal was quite soarable, although pretty unpleasant.
Eventually decided to go across the tree lined bowl by the transmitter, as thats where the other much earlier wings got away, from the easterly facing slope at the far end. On the way had the biggest monster symetrical collapse I've ever felt - and I saw this one as I was looking up at the time - the whole wing apart from the end couple of feet completely rotated so I could see the top surface. Didn't horseshoe, and with a little bit of instant help it came out with a huge bang. I was far too close in to the trees, and probably in rotor from behind the take off spur, silly me. Anyway went over to join Richard Worley who had picked up something and we started climbing out quickly, closely followed by Martin Knight who raced over to join the thermal.
