What a brilliant day. We were still all stood around on launch at Hay Bluff as it was getting close to 2pm, thinking this isn't going to happen today. Then one of the students on radio took off and flew straight out… And up, then panic ensued and everyone rushed to get off. Base was well over 6000', climbs strong and as usual in the Black Mountains the flying and the views second to none. I was with Ben and Graham on a declared 45km triangle attempt, and we all headed down to the Sugar Loaf. I got low but found a screamer that I took for 5000' to keep me in the game. Then on to Mynydd Troed, into wind, which was tricky. Ben unfortunately went down here, which left Graham and myself to fly the west facing ridges and squeak back to launch. Lovely.
Tried putting my declared flight into the xcleague only to find that it failed the 2% rule. So you land on the same bit of ground that you took off from and you haven't closed the flight - what a dumbass rule if ever there was one. Oh well, still a spectacular day out, shared with good friends, in an amazing place - what's not to like.
