Get to hill early. Go to MHWH spur. Get kit ready early. It's the place to be. What do we have 50+ pilots? Get off early. Sun out, take off. Small core. Turn tight. Lots of drift. Drift with it into Milk bowl. Wind South. Glide ENE. Usual pre Marlborough disorganised lift. Take it slow, work the weak stuff. Ogbourne St George golf course house thermal. Pre M4 house thermal. Top up before Vale of White Horse sink. Bar through sink. Approaching Wantage, find the house thermal NE of town. Point at Didcot Power Station, to avoid Brize airspace. Golf course NW of power station. Approaching Oxford. Now 1/8 cloud. Air drying. No matter the small clouds are working well and they are forming and decaying very quickly - I can't keep track. Doesn't matter there's lift everywhere. Airspace at 5500 before Milton Keynes. Feel relaxed base is currently no more than 5000ft. Approaching Bletchley airspace. High. Fly over it. Hugh on the radio. I've bombed. Seriously? That's not like him. Milton Keynes ahead. Do I fly over it? I'm high. Good clouds over the town. Go for it. Cruise over the town. No real need to thermal. Out of the 5500 airspace. I'm free! Let's get high. We are in sailplane country. How many can I count? 10, 20, 30. Lots of wing waggling. Wave you're on camera! Pick a climbing sailplane. Too many to choose from! How about that group of 8. I'm surrounded. 4 below, 4 above. Hang on to the brakes. I'm getting 5 m/s here. Off we go again. There's that big lake again. Ah it's Grafham Water ok! How we doing. Time is pushing on. 140km, not much wind, 50 km/h downwind. Let's get on that bar. No need to hang about at nearly 6000ft. Wow this is getting easy. Don't turn just keep on gliding. Join the clouds, what there is of them. Ely approaching. I was here two weeks ago, but I'm more to the NW this time. Getting low. Let's get to those dark fields beyond the green drainage channels. There's the railway line to the coast. Forget Ely follow the railway line. Let's see how far we can glide. No need. Good thermal at 1500 ft. Back to 4500. Downham Market, 200km surely? Concentrate. Tired. Downham Market 3500ft below. Do I burn off the height. Kings Lynn beckons. Come on then let's give it a go.
