Neil, Ed & I had a good day up Glen Cannich. We've been looking for a launch that will take a W (other than Wyvis) for ages and it seems we found one that works.
After we walked up it was shaded out (and actually very lightly snowing at one point) and we were reticent to launch, so we lunched instead and talked parabollocks and waited for some sunshine.
Eventually a bit of sun had been on the ground in front of us for a while and in the absence of any distinct thermal cycles we decided to do a mass death glide - just all get off simultaneously and see what happened. We launched and flew straight into a massive therm that took us all to base! (It was probably there all morning, but we'll never know… )
Ed took an early foray up Glen Cannich but hit sink and returned below Neil and I who were just topping out and (seeing bright sunshine in Glen Strathfarrar) we decided to dive over the back. Ed followed soon afterwards.
Neil & Ed landed in Strathfarrar but Neil walked a short distance back up and launched straight into a therm. I had flown on and glided the length of Strathfarrar, with spectacular views of the Munros of Strathfarrar all around. I landed at the gate near Struy.
Minutes later Neil appeared high above me and flew on into Strathglass, where he landed outside my house. I borrowed a keeper's Landrover and drove up Strathfarrar to retrieve Ed. Neil collected my wife's car from my house and came back to collect me and Ed after we gave the keeper his LR back and took us back to our cars in Glen Cannich.
