Day 1, task 1 of the 2021 LCC.
Clever task setting on Clough by Mike Cav and Richard Bungay had us down to Helvellyn, back to a turnpoint around Jenkin and then off to goal at Appleby-in-Westmorland.
The flight started well, not so much the use of instruments! I set off with others down towards Helvellyn before I realised that I hadn't started Flyskyhy and when I did the instrument was trying to send me back to the start, consequently I had to keep zooming in at the turnpoints to make sure I actually tagged the cylinders.
Tagged Helvellyn TP and then pushed back upwind to try and tag Jenkin TP which was trickier than it looked as pushing out from the hill meant just being drilled with the risk of not getting up again. I finally tagged the TP and got back up but then just couldn't gain enough height to make any sensible distance towards goal and elected to land in the Clough landing field with most of the others.
Task not completed but it was a lot of fun trying.
